Time to celebrate with the community and roll up your sleeves!

SAN FRANCISCO, JUNE 8, 2019 — From 9AM until 12 noon, all District 7 residents and friends are invited to come out to celebrate the District 7 Participatory Budget project “Landscaping and Art for Sunnyside Detroit Steps”. The project received  678 votes by residents to receive $25,000 in funding.

Eager to initiate beautification, even before  the funding arrives, local residents and greening enthusiasts will be rolling up their sleeves on June 8th to work alongside the Green and Clean Team, a group of volunteers from the Department of Public Works, to weed the land between the steps (Upper and Lower) and homes adjacent to them.

Complementary bagels, pastries, coffee, and gardening tools will available. Upon hearing the proposal passed on the ballot, project leader Rosaura Valle said, “This is truly a wonderful moment that will keep us energized for the upcoming weeks!” The group of neighbors and other residents began their efforts on this beautification project in November 2018. Cleaning begins with the June 8th event. When the funds arrive, they will go towards Detroit Steps evaluation and repairs so that they will be ready for the next phase of beautification.

Among the 26 approved District 7 projects, all four Sunnyside projects on the ballot passed:

  • Landscape and Art for Sunnyside’s Detroit Steps
  • Havelock Street Bridge Beautification and Safety
  • Green Gathering Space at Sunnyside Elementary School
  • Disaster Relief Supplies for Neighborhood Resilience in Sunnyside
