Join your neighbors June 7 to clear ivy beneath the Bosworth Pedestrian Bridge, the first step in its transformation from a cement span into a vibrant piece of community art.
Inspired by the Portola Pedestrian Bridge, the Bosworth Pedestrian Bridge will eventually have murals on its four pillars and a fresh coat of paint for the span. The bridge is the latest in a string of neighborhood community efforts that make Glen Park beautiful and unique: the Glen Park Greenway, the Burnside Mural + Tiled stairs, the Elk Street Mural, monthly trash pick-ups, cleanup of Arlington from the triangle all the way to Fairmount Street.
The work will happen as part of the Department of Public Works’s District 8 Neighborhood Beautification Day. Organized once a year in each district, these special work parties supply the resources of DPW — helpful staff, supplies, and tools – to a neighborhood of volunteers.
But it is you who will make this really happen.
Our area to beautify is next to the Glen Park Greenway’s meadow, long stewarded by its volunteers. The location is just above the meadow, already roped off, for you to enjoy the satisfaction of removing ivy and other undergrowth that is begging for attention. We’ll be working side-by-side with the great Greenway volunteers.
You’ll enjoy the company of your neighbors and likely will make new friends. You will make a huge contribution to the area’s beautification. No tools or experience needed—DPW will provide everything, including coffee to keep you energetic.
