10th Anniversary Retrospective: Bird & Beckett Bookstore Recognized at City Hall

May 15, 2019 by Heather World

To celebrate the Glen Park Association Website turning ten years old, we are reposting some of our favorite stories from the last ten years.

Bird & Beckett Bookstore owner Eric Whittington being honored by District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman at the Board of Supervisors meeting.

Eric Whittington, proprietor of Glen Park’s Bird & Beckett Books, was honored at City Hall on Tuesday with a commendation from Supervisor Rafael Mandelman. (Or “Condemnation,” as Whittington accidentally referred to it.)

Introduced by District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, who graciously thanked Whittington for bringing 20 years of music, books, poetry, and culture to the city, Whittington thanked the artists, audiences and hard-working staff that make it all possible. He also issued a challenge to the Board, asking them to find creative ways to support the arts in an increasingly unaffordable city.

Music events scheduled for Thursday through Sunday will mark the last of this week-long celebration of 20 years in business. Click here to see the line-up. And remember to tip the band what you can!
