Burnside Mural+: The + is for tiled steps

November 2, 2023 by Renee Berger

Get out your calendars:

Editor’s Note: This event was rescheduled from October due to illness. The new date is Nov. 8 at the Glen Park Library, 6 – 7:30 PM.

Burnside Mural+ invites you to a presentation by the brilliant tile artists, Aileen Barr and Colette Crutcher, designers of the Burnside Mural+ tiled steps, hosted at the Glen Park library on October 11th from 6:00pm-7:30pm. They will take all behind the scenes to explain how tiled stairways are made.

Dazzling examples of their work are Hidden Gardens, (16th and Kirkham), 16th and Moraga Steps, and Lincoln Steps (30th and California).  Aileen and Colette handcraft each tile. For the Burnside stairway we estimate they will make over 1000 tiles including the  200 “legacy” tiles with heartwarming inscriptions from the project’s many supporters.  The stairway will be a gorgeous complement to our beautiful mural.

Tap here to see the design for the Burnside stairway.

Let’s give Aileen and Colette a warm welcome! While you feast your eyes, the library will generously be providing snacks.

We are grateful for Supervisor Mandelman’s support and also our fiscal sponsor the San Francisco Parks Alliance.
