CHECK IT OUT AT THE LIBRARY–The library reopens! What’s new in February

January 28, 2022 by Jaime Wong

We’re so incredibly thrilled to welcome patrons back in, Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m.—6 p.m.! This has been quite a period of transition, but one thing stays the same—the need and love for good books, good reading and good community, and we are proud to offer that to Glen Park.

During the pandemic, the Library quickly adapted to virtual programming, including our popular and beloved online storytime series, Sweet Stories. We currently offer storytimes Mondays through Thursdays on Facebook—anyone can tune in. Additionally, in partnership with the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, we bring stories and song to our City’s parks through our Swing Into Stories program. Climb aboard to browse our fresh book selection, and join in a glorious storytime at 10:30 a.m. Glen Park neighbors may find us the first Tuesday of every month at Garfield Playground at Treat and 26th Streets, and every fourth Tuesday at Redwood Playground in McLaren Park.

In February, join us for More Than a Month, our celebration of Black History Month. We’re focusing on the national theme of Black health and wellness, and are offering free meditation programs online, and themed, recommended reads.

Do you need a book club refresh? Consider participating in On the Same Page, our bimonthly book club. Our February selection is Yoke: My Yoga of Self-Acceptance, by the groundbreaking wellness activist Jessamyn Stanley. See her in conversation with Tamika Caston-Miller, director of Ashe Yoga, on Feb. 22. Register for this free Zoom event.

Be sure to pick up a collectible free Black Inventors bookmark, created by Rev. Dr. Carolyn Ransom-Scott, to celebrate the Black innovators who had a part in designing and improving many of the things we use today, from light bulbs, to elevators, to air conditioners and tricycle. We’ll have a mini-exhibit as well to accompany the bookmark. While many of our offerings are digital, these are two things you won’t want to miss in person.

Lastly, be sure to pick up your SFPL Explorer Map the next time you drop by Glen Park Branch—or any branch! These swoon-worthy, adorable keepsake maps invite you to visit every location of San Francisco Public Library to discover the very different personalities, designs and collections. Plus, use our Staff Picks page while you’re in the neighborhood to discover SF gems (stores, scenic spots and more) from local experts. We’ve curated them especially for you.

We can’t wait to see you. Drop by, say hi and don’t be a stranger to the Glen Park Branch Library.

Wonder what’s going on with the French restaurant on the corner of Chenery. It never reopened.
