Glen Park Beautiful is hard at work on our next major project: the transformation of the Bosworth Pedestrian Bridge at Lippard. Currently a drab and unremarkable piece of infrastructure, the bridge will undergo a major metamorphosis this Spring. The project is a collaboration with the Department of Public Works (DPW).
DPW will clean the bridge and paint it in blues that will harmonize with the Glen Park School. This is scheduled to start around March 27 and is expected to take up to two weeks. DPW anticipates some slowdown in traffic along Bosworth near Lippard for a block or so. You will see signage and safety cones.
The last phase of the project will be blanketing the bridge’s five pillars in colorful mosaics. Drawing on community input, the internationally renowned artist, Ross Holzman, will lead the Glen Park School’s students in making the mosaics, a process currently underway. The colorful designs are based on indigenous patterns.

When complete, the bridge will brighten our neighborhood, surely the only mosaicked
bridge pillars in San Francisco!
Glen Park Beautiful emerged from the Burnside mural/tiled steps, Elk Street mural, and painted utility boxes at the GP BART station projects. Its mission is to foster the creative spirit of the Glen Park neighborhood in San Francisco, to increase civic involvement and to nurture local talent toward a goal of a more vibrant and beautiful neighborhood. It is led by three long-time neighborhood residents, Renee Berger, Beth O’Leary, and Libby Reder. We’d love to hear from you: Go to www.gpbeautiful.org, scroll to the bottom to contact us.
