Construction work begins on Glen Canyon Renovation Project

January 10, 2013 by Elizabeth Weise

MapFrom: “Mauney-Brodek, Karen” <karen.mauney-brodek@sfgov.org>
Subject: Construction to Start on Glen Canyon Park Renovation Project – Portions of the Park Around Elk Street Closed Stating January 10th, other portions closed starting the week of January 14th

The contractor hired to start the Glen Canyon Renovation Project will be starting construction activities Thursday, January 10th.  At times, on Thursday January 10th and January 11th, and the week of  January 14th tennis courts may be closed in order to protect park users during some work.

It is anticipated that starting the week of January 14th, more areas under renovation will be closed for public use.  This will include portions of the far southern end of Glen Canyon Park (including the playground, tennis courts, and edge of the ballfields).  The Recreation Center building is currently closed in order to receive improvements as part of this renovation, including a new heating system and a new restroom.  We are working with the contractor to provide portable toilets available for park users while the Recreation Center is closed for renovation.

The park entrances at Elk Street near the tennis courts will be closed.  Alternate park entrances will be open during construction from Elk Street, Bosworth Street.  Please see the attached flyer entitled “Glen Park Access During Renovation,” for a map of those entrances that will remain open.

Thank you to all who attended Monday’s informational update co-sponsored by Supervisor Scott Wiener and the Glen Park Association at the Glen Canyon Park Recreation Center.  It was a pleasure to discuss the upcoming renovation and the associated tree work with the Glen Canyon Park community.

The construction project is expected to be completed in November of 2013, assuming there are no additional delays.

As always, please feel free to contact me with questions and check the project website at

I can be reached at (415) 575-5601 or karen.mauney-brodek@sfgov.org.

Sincerely,
Karen Mauney-Brodek
