Give Joy! 2023 Urban Angels Kicks Off SF Holiday Gift Campaign

November 2, 2023 by Carolyn Nickell

The 2023 Urban Angels SF Holiday Gift Program: Give Joy! starts November 1st and continues through December 12th.

UASF is committing to serving 1,000 children: 800 in shelters and 200 in our predominantly Latina Friday Moms group. We are seeking to raise $50 per child for a wonderful gift x 1,000 children = $50,000.

Starting the week of November 1st, we are looking for volunteers to help spread the word through tabling, social media posts and in many other ways. If you want to be included in the announcements about these ways to help, email UASF president, Nelson, at nb3@UrbanAngelsSF.org.

UASF is encouraging anyone who has a group of friend, family or community group to ADOPT-A-SHELTER. This would mean agreeing that their group would provide holiday gifts (retail price between $35 and $50) for a number of children that they would pick; such as 20 children or 30 or 50 etc. The UASF campaign chair, Priyanka, would tell them their ages and gender and what shelter they live in. They would then get their group together, fundraise, buy the presents and deliver them to the shelter, wrapped or unwrapped depending on what the shelter wants. The delivery date to the shelters will be between December 2 and December 16.

Last year’s ADOPT-A-SHELTER campaign was very popular because it gave people a chance to directly help kids who were waiting for their holiday gifts. For many of these children, it would be their only holiday gift because their parents are struggling to just pay bills and buy food for the family.

If you or anyone you know would be interested in ADOPT-A-SHELTER, just email Priyanka at psodhi@UrbanAngelsSF.org.

About Urban Angels SF
Since 2015, Urban Angels SF has been headquartered in the Diamond Heights shopping center. Its approximately 50 volunteers from the surrounding neighborhoods focus year-round on providing frontline aid to San Francisco men, women and children who need it by rallying community support. Three times per year, UASF conducts campaigns that focus on the needs of unhoused SF children and others from families that live at or below the poverty level.
