Shortly after hearing from Glen Park residents, city traffic engineers made significant safety improvements to Glen Park and have promised to follow up on others.
City Traffic Engineer Ricardo Olea updated the Glen Park Association about a week after the April quarterly meeting:
- Some speed bumps on Diamond between Surrey to Chenery according to the manager “should be installed in August after we resolve funding issues. We’re aiming for SFCTA Board approval in June.”
- There were some questions about paving, this website’s map indicates that Diamond south of Bosworth will be paved soon as part of Pavement Renovation 66: https://sfpublicworks.org/street-resurfacing
- I removed one parking space on Elk and Chenery on the northeast corner as requested. There’s a work order also to replace the older STOP signs there.
- Bosworth and Arlington. I met with signal designer and he thinks that a rapid flash beacon on the on-ramp could be feasible, so we are in discussions about how to queue funding. These flashing beacons would alert people turning right or left from Bosworth at the I-280 on-ramp that someone is crossing (provided the pedestrian pushes the button to activate the beacons).
- I checked with our 311 team and they were going to follow up on a old request mentioned on Surrey to see if they have gotten back to the person that requested it.
- I followed up with the team that worked on the project about some questions that have come up about Elk and Sussex crossing.
- Flashing beacons being too long, I confirmed they are set for a walking speed of 2.5 feet per second, so they are mean to flash if a person walking very slowly crosses the entire street. An average walking rate is probably around 4 feet per second, but as we know the system has to accommodate everyone
