On Saturday, September 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the playground at St. John’s Catholic School will once again be filled with the sounds of sirens, honking horns, and a whole lot of happy kids. Touch a Truck SF is back for its second year, inviting little ones to climb into the driver’s seat of real working vehicles: fire trucks, school buses, big rigs, and more.
This beloved hands-on event is also a fundraiser for Miraloma Cooperative Nursery School, a nonprofit preschool known for its red house and play-based curriculum. Proceeds help fund art supplies, classroom equipment, and enrichment programs for local families.
Last year’s debut event drew more than 500 attendees, and organizers are planning for an even bigger turnout this year. We had so many amazing moments—kids lighting up as they honked the horn or tested all the silly apps in the Cybertruck. And yes, we still laugh about the school bus that got stuck in the driveway!
Beyond the family fun, neighborhood residents should be aware of increased activity around Chenery and Burnside during the event window. Expect some added traffic and joyful noise, and maybe consider walking if you’re nearby.
