Greenway Work Party Saturday, Nov. 6

October 27, 2021 by Nicholas Dewar, Greenway project

Hello Friend and Supporter of the Greenway,
I hope that you can come to our next Work Party on Saturday November 6 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. We’ll have coffee at the start (many thanks to Canyon Market for providing this) and sandwiches at the end. We haven’t shared coffee and sandwiches together since before Covid appeared so we’ll have to practice social distancing while we’re hanging out together – I think that we’ve all grown accustomed to doing that!
We’ll meet at the end of the Chilton Ave cul-de-sac (near 88 Chilton). Just follow the aroma of freshly brewed coffee! See you there at 9:00AM.
If you’re planning to come to the work party please send me an email at
greenway@glenparkassociation.org
and let me know no later than Tuesday, November 2 so that we know how many sandwiches to order.
Here’s a description of the main tasks that we’ll do:
  • Weed the area of the new Native Meadow. This is the first step in realizing our new Native Meadow Project! The recent rains (and some irrigation during September and October) have encouraged any seeds in the soil to sprout. Now we need to remove the existing weedy grasses so that, when we plant the native grasses in a couple of months, the native grasses will be able to establish themselves with less competition. The best tools for this will be hand mattocks, eye hoes or garden hoes and bow rakes
  • Cut the ivy that is growing over shrubs and up the trunks of trees. The best tools for this will be loppers and small shears
  • Collect trash The Greenway gets plenty of trash tossed down from the Bosworth sidewalk. If you find cleaning up the landscape to be a satisfying pursuit, we’ve got a trash-picker for you!
If you have your own tools, please bring them. If you don’t have tools we have tools that SFPW has lent to us that you can borrow – just come to the top of the pedestrian ramp where Chilton Avenue meets Bosworth St. My red Subaru will be parked there at 9:00AM on Saturday morning with tools that you can use.
For more information about the tasks or to discover which tools we expect that you’ll need, please email me at the Greenway address.
We need to follow San Francisco’s current rules in response to the pandemic. We will be working in the open air so generally need not wear masks. However, please bring a mask with you and, if you need to work closely with any other volunteers and they feel more comfortable wearing a mask, please wear yours too.
I hope that you’ll be able to join the Work Party and look forward to working with you on Saturday November 6.
Many thanks for all that you do for the Greenway.

Have you ever walked the Arlington path or the Bernal cut and wondered who took care of all plants and greenery?

There’s a wonderful article by Bonnee Waldstein on the Glen Park News Blog
“Meet a mighty band of volunteers who create natural beauty one neglected patch at a time in Glen Park“ at www.glenparkassociation.org o visit link in @glenparkassociation bio.
