Status: Project formation and early community organizing
Short-Term: Activate & Claim the Space
Purpose: Create visible, community-led activity on Arlington and bring neighbors together to imaging a shared vision for Arlington
- Block Party Activation: Host a Civic Joy-funded community gathering on Arlington on August 29 to bring neighbors together to create a shared vision for the street — with food, games, music, and the chance to share your ideas
- Planter Deployment: Place temporary planters in existing daylighting zones to “claim the space” ahead of permanent Community Corners installations
- Grant Awarded: Through the Glen Park Association, we have secured a grant from Avenue Greenlight in order to add colorful local murals to the city’s planned Painted Safety Zones, in addition to more permanent planters. This grant must be used within one year, so we want your feedback and ideas
Medium-Term: Continued Pursuit of Funding & Permits
Purpose: Advance the project from temporary activation to permanent improvements by securing funding and coordinating with partner agencies
- Pursue Community Corners plan installations, SFMTA bulb-out funding, and SFPUC Green Infrastructure capital programming, in coordination with GPA and Green SF Now
Long-Term: Permanent Green Infrastructure
Purpose: Transform Arlington into a safer, greener, and more welcoming neighborhood street through permanent infrastructure that supports pedestrian safety, sustainability, and everyday community use.
- Bulb-Outs with Planting: Permanent concrete bulb-outs on Arlington with trees or shrubs — not just traffic calming, but genuine urban greening
- Stormwater Management: A connected network of rain gardens and bioswales along the Bernal Cut corridor, protecting the Islais Creek watershed from runoff
- Safe Route to School: Physical improvements that make Arlington a genuinely safe, welcoming route for the families and children who rely on it daily
