Proposed resolution of the Glen Park Association to endorse

the 2012 Park Bond election

July 19, 2012 GPA quarterly meeting

On July 10, 2012, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved the Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks bond proposal for the November 2012 ballot. This $195 million General Obligation bond includes $12M designated for the Glen Park Recreation Center Improvement Plan.

The plan has an estimated budget of about $22 million, with about $6 million already allocated from the 2008 recreation and park capital improvement bonds. The proposed 2012 bond will allow the plan to be essentially completed.

The 2012 bond proposal also allocates $2.8M to rebuild Christopher Playground in Diamond Heights.

Therefore, the Glen Park Association endorses the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond on the November 2012 ballot.

The Glen Park Association

Proposed endorsement of the 2012 Park Bond election at the July 19, 2012 GPA membership meeting

Why the Glen Park Association should support the November 2012 capital improvement bonds ballot

• The bond proposal includes specific funds for Glen Park. On July 10, 2012, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved the Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks bond proposal for the November 2012 ballot. This is a $195 million General Obligation bond to address outstanding capital needs in the city’s parks. The proposal includes funding for specific neighborhood parks, with $12M designated for the Glen Park Recreation Center Improvement Plan. The Recreation and Park Commission approved the plans in August 2011.

• The funds from the proposed bond will pay to complete the entire plan to improve the Glen Park Recreation Center. The plans will renovate and expand the Recreation Center building, enlarge and replace the children’s playground with all new equipment, improve access from Elk Street, move and upgrade the tennis courts, and upgrade the playing fields. This plan has an estimated budget of about $22 million, with about $6 million already allocated from the 2008 recreation and park capital improvement bonds. The initial steps, now in the design stages, will improve the Elk Street frontage, the playground, tennis courts, and entrance path, and new bathrooms at the Rec Center building. The proposed 2012 bond will allow the plan to be essentially completed.

• The 2012 bond proposal in addition allocates $2.8M to rebuild Christopher Playground in Diamond Heights, also a resource for our neighborhood.

• Our recreation center not only serves the Glen Park neighborhood but also serves as a thriving city-wide resource.

• The Glen Park Association board of directors believes it is extremely important that the Glen Park community support the 2012 bond measure. A resolution of the Glen Park Association to endorse this ballot measure will be offered at the July 19, 2012 GPA quarterly meeting.
