UPDATE: Developing story: Vandals *Majorly* Tag Glen Park Recreation Center

May 6, 2019 by Bonnee Waldstein

S

Sunday morning there was a shocking sight at the Glen Park Recreation Center.  Vandals had done extensive tagging to the facade, the outdoor sculpture and stairs.  They’d spray-painted the security cameras as well.

A passerby walking his dog in the park at around 11:30 Saturday night posted on Nextdoor that he saw around 15 kids skateboarding and hanging out.  He didn’t notice the graffiti so it’s not confirmed that these were the perpetrators.

Sunday morning the police arrived in response to several calls and were debating the correct paperwork.

UPDATE: Ingleside Station Captain Hart supplied these details:

“This occurred at 1147PM on Saturday the 4th. I received the NextDoor post from a neighbor and immediately dispatched officers to meet with Rec and Park rangers on Sunday morning. We obtained video and have a decent picture of one suspect. We have completed a crime flier and have circulated this flier within the law enforcement agency network inside and outside of the Department. We are hopeful to get an identification. The case is assigned to Ingleside Station’s Investigation Team and we are working with our Graffiti Abatement liaison to see if these particular tags are unique to one suspect or crew.”

There are many surfaces in the Rec Center facade, including wood, stucco, glass, plexiglass and metal. The siding is coated  with a graffiti protectorant over building paint so graffiti is supposedly easily removed.  The two Rec and Park workers who were on the job this morning at 11:00 a.m. were very laboriously working on the wood siding.  It did not look easy at all.  When approached for some details, they were tight-lipped and said to call the Department for any information.  With the job ahead, they weren’t eager to stop and talk.

We are in the process of trying to get more details about the incident.  Anyone with any information is invited to tell us at: news@glenparkassociation.org.
