Don’t miss it–Glen Park Gum Tree Girls Festival, July 10

June 29, 2022 by Evelyn Rose, Founder & Director, Glen Park Neighborhoods History Project

Recent events make it crystal clear. The achievements and historic legacy of women’s activism during the 20th century in San Francisco’s Glen Park district have never been more important than they are now!

That is why we are holding the Glen Park Gum Tree Girls Festival 2022 at San Francisco’s beautiful Glen Canyon Park, 70 Elk Street at Chenery Street, on Sunday, July 10, 2022, 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Download the large festival flyer (legal sheet)!   Download the small festival flyer (standard sheet)!

Plans for this free, community event Glen Park Gum Tree Girls Festival, are ever closer to completion! The opening ceremony will include speakers from local organizations, representatives from several San Francisco city departments, nonprofit organizations, and a sound healing performance in commemoration of those we’ve lost to COVID. We will welcome Gum Tree Girl family members to share their stories both during the opening ceremony and following a presentation of the history of Glen Canyon and the Gum Tree Girls oral history video recorded by the GPNHP in 2016. There will be a Glen Park Women Hall of Fame to peruse, children’s art and sports activities sponsored by Burnside Mural+/Twin Walls Mural Company, and the Glen Park Association, respectively, and nonprofit information tables. Entertainment will include:

  • Live music and performances:
    • Allison Lovejoy & The Best Bad Things, performing songs about historic San Francisco women
    • The Cottontails, Bebop 40s style jazz/rock)
    • Rado & The Stanky Leg Trio, Jazz/Jam/Funk music
    • Meredith Edgar & Paul Griffiths with Sean Silverman, Folk/Americana
    • Annie Fu Chinese Dance Company
    • Leonard Sherman, Sound Healing performance for remembrance of those we’ve lost to COVID
  • Food and Beverages (available for purchase)
    • Media Noche (Food Truck, Cuban)
    • Aroy (Food Truck, Thai)
    • Canyon Market (prepackaged foods)
We are hoping to raise $5,000 for the nonprofit and free Glen Park Gum Tree Girls Festival on Sunday, July 10, 2022 in beautiful Glen Canyon Park. We want to ensure Glen Park’s historic activist women receive the honor and recognition they deserve for striving for the rights of all!
Please consider a gift of $50 or other amount at Flipcause, our new fundraising platform!
If a financial donation is not possible, we can also receive assistance with volunteers for the day of the event, promotion, equipment, or any other festival needs.
Thank you!
The GPNHP is coordinating this event, permitted by the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department. The GPNHP is a fiscally-sponsored affiliate with Independent Arts & Media, so your donation is tax-deductible. Independent Arts & Media is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Donations in support of the Glen Park Gum Tree Girls Festival are independent and separate from funds supporting the Glen Park Neighborhoods History Project.
