Friends of Glen Canyon Park resumes habitat restoration — join in

Volunteer in our Parks

Try out your green thumb or help clean up your neighborhood park. Sign up here to volunteer for the Glen Canyon Park cleanup August 21 (drop-ins also welcome)

From Mission Dolores Park to Golden Gate Park, there’s a wealth of exciting volunteer opportunities in our parks. Volunteers participate in a variety of park maintenance projects, including weeding, planting, mulching, habitat restoration, trash pickup, painting, and trail work.

Habitat restoration work happens primarily in the undeveloped outdoor spaces managed by our Natural Resources Division. Volunteers can participate in a wide variety of restoration activities, such as planting and propagating native plants, controlling erosion, and monitoring wildlife habitat.

We welcome drop-in volunteers! We can accommodate individuals or groups on a one-time or ongoing basis any day of the week. (More sign up information at end of post.)

3rd Saturday of month

Glen Canyon Park  Next date August 21st, 2021

Do you love nature? Join the Friends of Glen Canyon Park and the Natural Resource Division for our monthly volunteer project on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 9:30-12noon. Learn from our staff naturalists about the ecology of the canyon while helping to preserve its diverse habitats. We will be restoring portions of Islais Creek, riparian, scrub and grassland communities. Anyone 12 years and older is invited to join. A variety of volunteer tasks is available, at times on steep slopes. Wear close-toed shoes and appropriate clothing for physical work. Tools and gloves will be provided. Please be on time. Meet us at the end of Alms Road, 1500 feet (approx. 5-minute walk) north of the Glen Canyon Recreation Center. For help in locating the project, the recreation center is at 70 Elk St
