What better place to walk than San Francisco? According to Walk Score, it is the most walkable city in the U.S. And, in San Francisco, what better place to walk than Glen Park?! Add to Glen Park’s recognition as one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world, it is also a centerpiece of Walktober, a new, citywide celebration that encourages all to walk.
Led by the Crosstown Trail, joined by Glen Park Beautiful’s SF Stairway Month 2026 and dozens of other groups, Walktober already has over 40 guided walks (the list is continuing to grow). The walks traverse the entire city, with ones that focus on plants, landmark trees, sculpture (Big Art Loop!), tiled stairways, beaches, and even include bird watching.
Glen Park, one of the city’s smallest neighborhoods, plays an outsized role in Walktober. Our BART station (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) is a meet-up point for multiple walks, Glen Park Station (celebrating its 100th anniversary on October 17th), the neighborhood’s “living room,” will be serving up beverages both as a starting and ending location, walkers will be treated to our dirt alleyways and canyon, gaze at Glen Park’s growing treasure of murals, its mosaicked tiled stairway and pedestrian bridge pillars, will pick up snacks in our stores, and many will stop for Crosstown Trail swag at Bird & Beckett.
Do look at Walktober and get out those walking shoes! Here are just a few of the Glen Park-centric gems:
Crosstown Trail Pub Crawl (October 6): Starts at Glen Park Station

Glen Park Gravel (October 31): Revisit our rural past walking some of the city’s oldest dirt paths once grazed by cows. This walk will be led by the Crosstown Trail’s Double Cross founders with highlights added by Glen Park Neighborhoods History Project’s founder, Evelyn Rose.
And, please don’t be discouraged if a walk you want to do is booked, get on the waiting list!
