If you’re a fan of Viking’s Giant Subs’ food, go quick – and expect lines

September 11, 2025 by Elizabeth Weise

If you’re a fan of Viking’s Giant Submarine, better get in line – the  Glen Park eatery has been discovered by a pair of TikTok stars with more than 1.5 million followers.

Matt and Omar are a San Francisco couple who have found fame with their tales of buying food in and around town, then finding a nearby park to have lunch in.

According to the post, the pair made their first trip to Vikings at 2906 Diamond Street (across from BART) on Tuesday and ordered one of the restaurant’s excellent bánh mì. It was so good they went back on Wednesday, when they were were spotted by a Glen Park native as they walked to Glen Canyon Park, sandwiches in hand. She asked if they were shooting a video about their sandwich – and they were.

They posted about it on September 11 here. While Viking’s actual business name is now Banh Mi Viet Diamond, the signs still say Viking’s so that how it was referred to in their posts.

In the video the food-obsessed couple extol the excellence of Viking’s bánh mì, a Vietnamese sandwich that can include pork sausage, pâté or chicken along with cilantro, cucumber, pickled carrots, and pickled daikon combined with red chili and mayonnaise.

“We had the best bánh mì of our lives yesterday,” Matt says in their post. “I can’t explain to you how good it was!”

“Gorgeous cross-section,” said Omar as he inspects the sandwich.

“It’s from this random place in Glen Park,” Matt says as the two settle onto the terraced seating by the baseball field in Glen Canyon.

“It’s so good! It’s unbelievable!” he says, the shouts of kids practicing sports behind him. “Go to this random-ass location in Glen Park and get these bánh mìs.”

“They have like 100 reviews and they’re all five star,” Omar adds.

“I’ll give them five stars. I’ll give them 10 stars!” Matt adds.

Viking’s Giant Submarines was run for 18 years by Betty & Steven Chang, who retired in 2023. However within a year new owners reopened it, serving the same excellent food.

So if you’re a fan, run don’t walk to the storefront, which is open from 11-7 Monday through Friday. We expect lines soon.
