La Cigale opens – Glen Park’s newest restaurant

After more than three years of work, Glen Park’s newest restaurant, La Cigale, is finally open.

The space at 679 Chenery, has a prix fixe menu including tax and tips. La Cigale, which means  cicada in English, features the cuisine of Occitanie, a region in southwestern France. There are 15 seats, for walk-ins only. Diners are seated at a massive hexagonal wooden counter for a set menu. La Cigale places an emphasis on the foods cooked on open fires in the hearth at the center of the restaurant.

The owners are husband and wife Joseph Magidow and Daisy Linden. Magidow has past experience at Delfina and Tawla in the city.

The restaurant will be open Wednesday – Saturday from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, said Linden. Given its limited seating, would-be diners will need to either line up at the door or sign up online for the waitlist.

“We really hope to prioritize the neighborhood,” she said on September 21, when the couple held a friends and neighbors opening. “We only have 15 seats and we’ll prioritize the people who are here at 6:00 p.m.”

They’ve deliberately kept things small and intimate to allow for connection with the chef and the food. “Joe wanted to keep it a one-man show,” Linden said.

There’s a CR code on the door which allows people to get on the wait list. They will be texted about five minutes before their table is ready.

It’s also possible to linger in the front of the restaurant to enjoy a glass of wine while you wait – or even if you’re not waiting for dinner at all, Linden said.

Children are welcome but there’s no special children’s menu. Vegetarians and those with most allergies can be accomodated.

The restaurant held a soft opening on September 25, 2025. It officially opened for guests on October 1.

There have been some complaints by neighbors about the smoke  coming from the restaurant, according to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle. Others have described it as smelling like a neighbor is doing some particularly delicious barbequing.
