Saturday 11/10 Greenway workday has been canceled

November 9, 2018 by Bonnee Waldstein

See below for information from Greenway leader Nicholas Dewar:

Hello Friends and Supporters of the Glen Park Greenway.

We have cancelled the Greenway Work Party arranged for tomorrow, Saturday November 10.

I’m very disappointed about this but the health of our wonderful volunteers is even more important than the condition of our wonderful Greenway! I expect that 18-25 of our volunteers were getting ready to join us tomorrow morning, and enjoy the coffee, the camaraderie and the delight of getting some dirt under our fingernails. Sadly the dreadful fire in Butte County is producing so much smoke that the Air District predicts the index, which is currently rated at 124/”Unhealthy for sensitive groups”, will be slightly worse tomorrow. It’s predicted to be 149, which is only 2 “clicks” away from straight-up “Unhealthy” (“unhealthy” starts at 151).

Here, FYI, is what SFPW tells its employees about the significance of “Unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
++++The Air Quality Index in San Francisco at this time is unhealthy for sensitive groups. That means people with heart or lung disease, older adults, children, and teens should avoid strenuous outdoor activities and keep any outdoor activity short. Everyone else should choose less strenuous outdoor activities and shorten the time normally spent outdoors.++++

The Greenway still needs our help and attention so I expect that we’ll organize another work party for the near future and I look forward to working with you then.

Meanwhile enjoy the Greenway (but don’t inhale)!

Nicholas
