A 14-year-old Oakland boy was seen aiming an assault rifle at random people in San Francisco on Monday afternoon, police said Tuesday.

Shocked citizens called cops around 4:10 p.m. saying the boy had a gun with a sniper scope trained on people in the area of San Jose Avenue and 30th Street.

He was apparently pointing the gun at people as they walked past him on the sidewalk, an Ingleside Station police officer said.

Undercover cops with Ingleside Station responded. The boy took off as running as soon as the cops saw him, police said. The cops saw the boy “take off a backpack, and then pull a gun out and toss it over the fence,” police said.

Cops chased the boy down, converging on him with their guns drawn, police said. The boy still tried to run. He was taken into custody a short distance away, police said.

The assault rifle was also recovered and booked into evidence.

The boy, whose name was withheld because he is a minor, was booked for possession of an assault weapon, police said.
