The Superbowl: Local traffic tips from the Ingleside Station

February 4, 2024 by SFPD Ingleside Station

On Sunday, February 11, 2024, the San Francisco 49ers will play the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl # 58, with kickoff  scheduled for  3:30 PM.

The Ingleside Police district is home to very enthusiastic 49ers fans. If the 49ers win, Ingleside Station anticipates post-game celebrations spilling out into the streets within the Ingleside Police District. These celebrations may include impromptu street demonstrations, “cruising” of vehicles on major thoroughfares, an increase in attendance at bars, restaurants, and other venues showing the game.

Given the history of celebrations after local teams (49ers, Giants, Warriors) win or advance to a championship game, Ingleside Station anticipates large celebrations along the Mission Street Corridor (Cesar Chavez St to Sickles Ave). Although vehicle and pedestrian traffic along the Mission Street corridor is expected to increase, there are no planned MUNI reroutes, or closures for this event.

Ingleside Command has set in place a traffic diversion plan in case Mission Street gets congested with traffic, or unlawful activities start to take place. The affected area will be Mission Street from Cesar Chavez Street to Geneva Avenue.

In the event that traffic flow into the Ingleside District via freeway off ramps becomes too excessive, CHP may close the off ramps on Interstate 280 in both directions at the Geneva Avenue and Ocean Avenue exits, as well as N/B 280 at San Jose Avenue, in order to decrease vehicular traffic into the Ingleside district.

We are asking citizens to please avoid the above noted locations. If you do have to travel, please plan ahead, use alternate routes, and allow yourself additional time to travel safely
