You won’t want to miss Glen Park’s cleanup days

February 27, 2023 by Marian Dalere, VP, Glen Park Merchants Association and Bonnee Waldstein

Getting ready to hit the streets in Glen Park

Once a month–usually the second Saturday morning–a merry group of volunteers meets up at Critter Fritters on Chenery Street to be dispatched for a cleanup of commercial corridors and public spaces in Glen Park.

There are stalwart regulars as well as a changing tapestry of neighbors who can spare up to a couple of hours for camaraderie while performing a virtuous deed. The event even attracts people from other neighborhoods.

Public Works provides needed supplies such as bags, pickers and vests that make folks feel like a real city public servant.

Cleanup events are coordinated all over the city by Refuse Refuse SF, led by the tireless Vincent Yuen. Yuen is always coming up with imaginative and innovative ways to clean up and build community.

This is what 30 bags of trash looks like.

This past week, February 25, it was a nice break from the cold and rainy weather to have 16 volunteers who picked up 30 bags of trash.  Among them were people from the Portola and Miraloma Districts .

The Glen Park Merchants Association and the Glen Park Association organize the neighborhood event; several merchants provide refreshments for the volunteers–including coffee from Pebbles cafe– as well as discount coupons at local businesses.

If you are interested in volunteering, you can sign up to receive emails about upcoming events at RefuseRefuseSF.org, or just show up at Critter Fritters Pet Food and Supplies at 670 Chenery Street.
The next cleanup is Saturday, March 18, 10am -11:30am.
Then April 15 and May 13.

Have you had a chance to meet Michelle and her beautiful butterfly and caterpillar garden? It’s on Elk Street between Paradise and Chenery! If you’re lucky to see Michelle outside ,she’ll point out the cute little caterpillars in the garden.
