Inside the new Glen Canyon Rec Center

April 25, 2017 by Heather World

The big news at the last Glen Park Association General Assembly meeting was that our 1930s-era recreation center building is set to re-open Monday, June 5, following a $14 million renovation.

Missed the meeting? You can get a sneak preview of the inside of the building by clicking here to see pictures supplied by Project Manager Brett Desmarais. You can read Corresponding Secretary Bonnee Waldstein’s account of Desmarais’s presentation by clicking here. Finally, you can give feedback to Desmarais by emailing him at brett.desmarais@sfgov.org.

Here are his answers to questions that required some research on his part:

Q: Will there be a pet drinking fountain?
A: Yes, in the plaza by the building entrance.

Q: Will there be benches in the rear of the building?
A: Yes, there are several log benches on the canyon-side of the building.

Q: Will there be picnic tables in addition to the ones by the playground?
A: Yes, there will several in the field under the trees, as well as two more in the plaza on the west side of the building.*

*I am still determining which if any of these will be unpermitted tables.

✨The Glen Park Night Market is back Saturday, September 19, from 3-8 PM, bringing an afternoon of live music, DJs, local makers, community fun, and plenty of reasons to come hungry. Wander the neighborhood, grab a bite at one of Glen Park’s great restaurants and cafés, discover local artists and small businesses, dance a little, shop a little, and hang out with your neighbors.
Bring your crew, bring the kids, bring your appetite — and leave the afternoon open.
Glen Park is turning the neighborhood into one big block party, and you’re invited!
