Stephany Wilkes

Glen Park Association Newspaper Editorial

December 4, 2018 by Stephany Wilkes

Housing may be the hottest topic in Glen Park. Whether it’s sky-high sale prices, displacement of dear neighbors, a basketball court on Everson or the future of the BART lot, the Glen Park Association hears about nothing quite so much as housing. Opinions vary—and strongly—from one person to the next, but there is at least […]

Local Author on Sheep, Wool and Life

November 14, 2018 by Bonnee Waldstein

Glen Park resident Stephany Wilkes, vice president of the Glen Park Association, has managed to pull off a coup: taking a niche, arcane subject and writing a page-turner of a book about it. Wilkes, now 41, is one of those people who end up doing things that weren’t on their original life trajectory. She didn’t […]

Haunted Halloween

November 2, 2018 by Mary Szczepanik

[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id=”2″ gal_title=”Halloween”] There’s no denying that Halloween is quite the event in Glen Park — from the day-of parades at both Glen Park Montessori and Glen Park Elementary, to the nighttime festivities along and around Chenery street — Glen Park celebrates with enthusiasm and abandon. For the first time, San Francisco’s Ingleside Police station, […]

Glen Park Businesses: Longevity Rules One family. Three locations. Fifty years.

August 17, 2018 by Gail Bensinger

Even for tiny Glen Park, where a surprising number of businesses are in their second, third or even fourth decade under the same ownership, Dalere’s Beauty Salon stands out for longevity. Glory Dalere is 83 now, a widow, and has long since turned over the operation of the shop to her daughter Marian, who runs […]

August 13, 2018 by Rachel Gordon

Rafael Mandelman is preparing to take office as Glen Park’s new District 8 representative on the Board of Supervisors after he won the recent election in a landslide with 60 percent of the vote, besting incumbent Supervisor Jeff Sheehy. Mandelman is expected to take the oath of office in July, once results of the June […]

The Internet Conundrum in Glen Park

May 18, 2018 by Mary Szczepanik

Moving to Chenery Street a couple of years ago, I found that available Internet technology was older than many of my neighbors. AT&T’s Internet service, phone-line DSL, was hopelessly slow. Comcast’s cable speeds were faster but streaming videos ran out of bandwidth on Saturday nights. Many in the neighborhood have despaired of the options, so I […]

Thank you to all in District 8 who supported the Greenway’s application for funds in District 8’s first Participatory Budgeting Process. Thank you, Supervisor Sheehy, for the opportunity to help decide where the City’s budget […]

Restaurant Review: Worth a Trek to Angkor Borei

December 21, 2007 by BONNEE WALDSTEIN

Recently Glen Park has become a bona fide destination for foodies from the neighborhood and beyond. Now couples and groups can be seen walking through the village in their dressy casuals, alongside the locals in their flip-flops getting their forty bucks from the ATM. Lest we become too insulated in our cozy restaurant cocoon, I […]
